The Trojan Horse
An object no one has ever seen that everyone believes they know.
Line of enquiry
Visual atlases and essays on images that change form, travel across centuries and eventually construct what we consider true, memorable or desirable.
Editorial profile
Metamorfosi Visive follows images when they cease to be simple representations and begin to produce effects on reality. The series moves across art, archaeology, cinema, photography, digital culture and mass imagery to observe how a visual form travels from one period to another, is copied, corrected, simplified and ultimately made more recognisable than the history from which it emerged.
The atlas format is not used to accumulate figures. It is used to construct relationships. Two images separated by centuries may be placed together because they share a posture, a formal solution, a promise or a lie. The text makes the passage legible, checks the sources and prevents suggestion from replacing evidence.
The books in the series work along the boundary between document and visual culture. They ask why some images endure, why others are forgotten, how the copy can become a route to the real, and at what point a representation comes to replace what it represents.
Metamorfosi Visive is international by nature: images cross languages and geographies before texts do. Each volume constructs an autonomous visual route while remaining connected to the central question of the series: how do we learn to recognise the world through images that someone else has already organised for us?
