About Varchi Books
An independent publishing project
Books that enter familiar places, images and narratives where they stop being obvious.
Varchi Books is an independent publishing project. It publishes books that enter familiar places, images and narratives where they stop being obvious.
The catalogue grows around a small number of voices and recognisable lines of enquiry. It does not grow by accumulation. Each book continues, contradicts or opens a question already present in the others.
Documentary research remains central, but is never separated from voice, structure and editorial form. Cities, territories, heritage and images are not treated as simple subjects: they become vantage points from which to observe transformations in the present.
The series are lines of enquiry.
Biografie di pietra — Places, architectures, landscapes, works and symbols are given a voice, telling in the first person what time, use and transformation have deposited in their material form.
Metamorfosi visive — Visual atlases and essays on images that change form, travel across centuries and eventually construct what we consider true, memorable or desirable.
Controluce — Civil non-fiction on territories and social phenomena, observed at the point where reassuring narratives begin to reveal their cracks.
Varchi Books publishes in Italian and English. The website connects books, editions, themes and research within a single editorial system.
